Rainforest Awareness Day

On Sunday July 7th, we will be celebrating all the animals from rainforest habitats with our Rainforest Awareness Day.

Come to Alma Park Zoo on Sunday July 7th for a very special event – the Rainforest Awareness Day.   Special Activities and presentations for the Day will include:

  • Bat Conservation Van from Bat Conservation and Rescue QLD - Learn more about Bats at the Van and also during the Flying Fox Demonstration at 11am!
  • Rainforest Discovery Centre – Interactive Activities for kids to learn more about Rainforests and their animals.
  • Stella the Mascot Bat

    Cassowary Awareness – Attend our 1:00pm talk on the Cassowary and support their conservation.

  • Rainforest Trail Quiz – We will be distributing clues throughout the Zoo for kids to answer and win fantastic prizes!
  • Sausage Sizzle in Presentation Park
  • Facepainting for the kids

Event Ambassadors

The Boyd’s Forest Dragon, Red Tailed Boa Constrictor, Spectackled Flying Fox, Brazilian Tapir, Malayan Sunbear, Cassowary, Spider Monkey, Cotton Topped Tamarin, Common Marmoset, Pygmy Marmoset, Emperor Tamarin and Brush Turkey will be our Event Ambassors for the day.

We will also have a special guest appearance from Stella the Mascot Bat and her battling baby Luna!

Our Special Guests in attendance on the day will be:

Bat Conservation & Rescue QLD Inc. is a volunteer self-funded organisation whose aims are:

  • To provide accurate and informative education, through literature, community events and talks to the general public about the importance of bats, both megabat and microbat.
  • To provide an efficient and humane service to rescue and rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned bats, and to return them to the wild as soon as possible.
  • To be active in the conservation of bats and their habitat.
  • To follow the guidelines set out by the EPA in their Code of Practice: Care and rehabilitation of orphaned, sick or injured protected animals by wildlife volunteers.

Bat Conservation & Rescue QLD Inc. operates a Rescue Line for bat rescue advice and assistance. The Rescue Line services the Greater Brisbane Area, taking in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands and Pine Rivers. See our Rescue page for some general tips on what to do if you find a bat in trouble.

Kumbartcho Nursery
Kumbartcho Nursrey is a community nursery that is a joint venture between the Bunya Community Association and the Pine Rivers Shire Council.  The Nursery was established in 1997  and is run mostly by community volunteers. It is situated on the site of the former Bunya Park.  Representives from Kumbartcho Nursery will be in attendance at Alma Park Zoo to provide information sheets and Rainforest plant seedings for sale on the day.
