Green Iguana at Alma Park Zoo

Green Iguana at Alma Park Zoo
green_iguana.jpgAlma Park Zoo is proud to announce the arrival of Green Iguana.  We have constructed a purpose built Vivarium which is a climate and humidity controlled environment. The Green Iguana originates from Central and South America, from Mexico to southern Brazil and the Caribbean Islands. Adults are herbivores feeding on plants, vegetables and fruit; whereas young iguanas include small insects in their diet.  At present hibiscus flowers are their favourite. Adult Green iguanas weigh 5 kg and reach up to 6 feet in length.  Their strong tail is twice as long as the body and covered in armour.  The tail is used in defence to snap the air and slap at predators, and will back grow back if it is broken off. Did you know? Green iguanas also come in orange, brown or blue depending which country they originate from.  Their colours are used in camouflage to hid from predators among the right rainforest canopy.
