Marmoset Twins born at Alma Park Zoo

baby_marmoset.jpgAlma Park Zoo is proud to announce the birth of twin Marmoset (27/04/2010)

At eight days old the twins are approximately 5cm long and putting on weight nicely.  The twins spend majority of their day riding on Dad's back and transfer to Mum only to feed.  As first time parents (Carla and Pedro) our Keepers are very happy with their progress and all the right signs are being seen.

Our Marmoset's (Monkeys) are a popular attraction here at Alma Park Zoo and love to show off and leap around purely to entertain our visitors.  They prove to be one of our cutest and mischievous residents.

Marmosets belong to the primate family Callitrichids often referred to as The New World Monkey's.  They are typically found in the tropical rainforests of South America.  The Common Marmoset is distributed throughout the Atlantic Coastal Forest of north eastern Brazil.
