Koala breeding program and education programs in full swing at Alma Park Zoo.

With only 1600 koala's left in Brisbane's northern areas and with some of these areas listed as extinct, the plight of the Koala has never been more pressing.

Alma Park Zoo has welcomed another baby joey - Tallow is now 8 months old and is venturing out of mum (Matilda's) pouch and saying hello to all our guests at the Zoo.

Tallow is now our 7th Koala in the last 9 years born at Alma Park Zoo and with the addition of a new stud male "Beaumont" we are looking forward to some more news of another two new arrivals in the coming months.

Development and clearing continues as South East Queensland population grows.  Resident's need to drive carefully, especially at night and should contain pets during the night - dog attacks and cars kill more than 4,000 koalas a year.

Alma Park Zoo is currently developing a new education program in conjunction with the Australian Koala Foundation (Launch July 2010) for primary schools to assist in the education and awareness of this Australian Icon.
